故事发生在我国西南边陲。深山里有一个与世隔绝的村寨，寨中男女生下孩子，须在满月时占卜，根据卦来决定是否能够结婚。伊娜生完孩子后，其占卜的卦表明她不能和孩子的父亲岩罕成婚。不得已双方退回当初各自交换的信物，这表明今生今世再无成婚的可能。孩子生病，巫师给治死了。有天深夜，依波将喝醉的岩罕拖入其所住小屋，趁其不清醒宣布俩人正式建立男女关系。岩保则趁夜色窜至伊娜处，欲以实施即成事实，遭伊娜拒绝，不死心的岩保夺走伊娜的银项圈。第二天，人们在水中发现岩保的尸体。数月后依波生下双胞胎，被族人视为邪魔转世……。Speedy" loses his job as a soda-jerk, then spends the day with his girl at Coney Island. He then becomes a cab driver and delivers Babe Ruth to Yankee Stadium, where he stays to see the game. When the railroad tries to run the last horse-drawn trolley (operated by his girl's grandfather) out of business, "Speedy" organizes the neighborhood oldtimers to thwart their scheme.。
